What educators are saying
Description
It's the end of the school year and everyone is running out of gas. You need something interactive and engaging to keep your middle schoolers busy learning during those last weeks of school. Use this fun research project to get the job done!
Remember Flat Stanley? Most of my students did and so building on that idea, I gave them pine cones with googly eyes glued on them. They named their "pals" and then prepared to send them on a summer vacation!
Objective: Students will form groups of 3, choose a destination, and then plan a trip for their "pals"! They will create a bibliography, a spreadsheet, and a PowerPoint (or Google Slides) to present their vacation!
Students have to demonstrate learning in these areas:
1. Researching effectively (using more than just Google!)
2. Conversion rates
3. Using a budget
4. Planning an itinerary
All while thinking creatively about what their pet will experience!
This resource includes:
✅ Full directions for both teacher and students
✅ Rubric with an explanation of my Fair Grading system
✅ Links to a mini-lesson as well as free digital tutorials
✅ Excel-based budget for both students and teachers (teacher edition has formulas)
✅ Google Slides Version - a spreadsheet with formulas is embedded into the student pages.
✅ Digital version of the student pages
Your students will love the opportunity to be self-directed and creative! You will love that they are engaged during the last, hectic weeks of school!
