End of Year Activities: Summer Build It Math Mats

You can get your testing done while kids work on building these summer math pictures using linking cubes. These make great independent math centers or morning tub work. Children create 3-D objects when using these snap cube math mats and can "build out" on them as an extension. A lot of learning takes place and no worksheet is needed. You will see and hear the learning and this will be one of your kids favorite math centers!

Children work on,

• counting and cardinality
• spacial reasoning
• critical thinking, patterns
• fine motor skills

Children are not suppose to build directly on the mat although they can and children as young as 4 have done these successfully.

There are 19 linking cube or snap cube picture mats that vary in difficulty which makes it easy to differentiate. Use one a day for 2 weeks in a center or put them all in your math center and let children choose. These are also great to pair with stories.
