What educators are saying

I have a student whose behavior can escalate quickly--we have found that asking her to verbalize her feelings increases the escalation. Having these materials at hand allow her to communicate without any talk on her part.
This is a great resource for a wide range of students who need a simpler approach to social/emotional learning. I added this as a center in my life skills group! Super fantastic.

    Description

A bundle of resources to teach emotion identification, self regulation and behavior control. Visual supports allow students to communicate their feelings and select calming actions, self manage their behaviors when feeling mad, angry, frustrated, out of control, confused, embarrassed, silly etc. Students are provided with a variety of different written and visual supports to help communicate their emotions as well as promote self help and coping skills.

Specifically within each product you will find:

I am feeling. Emotion and feelings communication strategy cards.

Emotion and feelings communication boards for students with autism, asd, adhd and social emotional deficits. These boards can aid and assist students in identifying their emotions along with a variety of different coping strategies and self help techniques that they can engage in order to appropriately problem solve or seek adult assistance.

When students are feeling a negative emotion, being able to effectively communicate this to others is a key behavior management and self regulation tool. If they are able to let others know how they feel and get the help they need (whether it be a self calming activity, assistance with a task, help navigating a social problem with another peer), this can result in the reduction of the need to engage in problem behavior.

This product provides multiple different visual supports that allows students to quickly communicate their emotions to others as well as communicate what they need others do to help them. Visual tiles also provide a wide array of self calming, self help and problem solving strategies that students can utilize (and act as visual reminders to encourage appropriate behavior) in order to get their needs met.

This emotions and feelings booklet is a tool to provide students an effective means to communicate HOW they feel and as a way to reference different coping and self management strategies that they can engage in to self regulate and calm their emotions.

The booklet can also be a way for students to communicate to YOU exactly why they are feeling a specific emotion along with a means to let YOU know what YOU can do to help them calm.

At times, when students feel an intense level of an emotion, it can be difficult for them to fully articulate exactly what is wrong and what they need you to do to help them. Sometimes requiring a student provide a verbal response can even further intensify an emotion resulting in actions and behaviors that may not always be appropriate for a situation.

Students can keep their emotion book with them so that they can be encouraged to independently utilize the different coping/self help strategies that they can engage in whenever they feel a negative emotion. Using the booklet, students will be able to efficiently communicate their needs, and with teaching and guidance, students can be taught to communicate their needs BEFORE their level of an emotion intensifies. Having students communicate to you about HOW they feel, WHY they feel that way and what you can do to help them can help reduce problem behavior or a student ‘shutting down’/become non-responsive, as students are able to get their needs met before a situation escalates.
