What educators are saying

Loved the compare and contrast with other spooky stories about pictures (Poe's Oval Portrait and Dorian Gray). Very complete materials to elicit writing and discussion as well as a fun script. Might be good for a drama club's Halloween show.

Description

The Ebony Frame by Edith Nesbit adapted to play form by Kathy Applebee is a 10 page, 7 scene script for 4 females, 3 males, and as many extras as desired can be used as a reader’s theater or performance piece. When a man inherits a mansion, he is strangely drawn to a portrait of a woman. Who is she? What does she want?

The 12 pages of projects and prompts provide opportunities for the teacher to choose, the students to interact with the text and work on various projects, writing and discussion prompts. Plus how and why to do reader's theater, rubric and how to use the Jigsaw method with scripts.

BONUS! Also included for a compare and contrast activity is Edgar Allan Poe’s The Oval Portrait, a 3 page, split scene script for 3 males, 1 female and 1 either. Three additional slides are included with exit tickets, quick writes and discussion/writing prompts.
