Description
Assess your students' knowledge of using numbers to count rhythms! This is a set of 19 exit slips that start with counting quarter notes and rests and increase in difficulty over time. They will help students learn to count rhythms with numbers instead of Kodaly syllables. A breakdown of which rhythmic values are added at each "level" is included, as well as a gradebook grid to help you keep track of student scores. ALL of the slips are worth the SAME amount of points, making it easy to track student progress over time!
I used these last year to teach my 5th graders how to count with numbers before going to middle school. I used them as part of my evaluation and showed that I was differentiating work for students, because students can move through these slips at their own pace. Each of the 8 levels has at least one "Extra practice" sheet that reviews the same rhythmic values they just counted. Students who made two or fewer errors skipped over the extra practice slips and moved on to the next rhythmic value.
Rhythms included:
Sixteenth notes
Eighth notes
Quarter notes/rests
Half notes/rests
Dotted half notes
Whole notes/rests
*Time signatures used: 4/4, 3/4, and 2/4
What you get:
Directions for how to grade/what level to move students to
Gradebook grid
8 different "levels" of counting
11 "extra practice" sheets to review missed concepts
Looking for more difficult rhythms? Try these Advanced Rhythm Counting Slips, which include more sixteenth/eighth note combinations as well as dotted quarter-eighth rhythms.
