Description

Are you looking for some Latin reading this Valentine's Day? The this free resource might be for you!

Although not as well known as some of the other Latin poets of his era, Sextus Aurelius Propertius is an important elegaic poet of the Augustan age. He wrote four books of elegies, most of which he dedicated to 'Cynthia' - an unknown lover with whom he had a tumultous relationship. We know almost nothing else about Propertius, except the fact that he was friends with Vergil and Gallus.

This little book contains a selection of his elegies to Cynthia - translations are not included. There is a free Latin dictionary linked in the file if there is any vocabulary you don't know, but otherwise this is a resource for advanced Latin students - ideally those who have already studied Latin poetry (Vergil, Ovid etc.).

Whether you've already read Propertius' poems and you'd like a refresher in a pretty new format, or if you've never read them before and you'd like to try a few (before committing to all four books), then this is the resource for you!
