What educators are saying

Excellent practice problems! There is a good variety of questions to provide easy to difficult questions.
I broke up this set to use some of the cards as bell ringers and others for review. They were great for the extra practice my students needed to cement this concept!

Description

These electric circuit task cards are a great way to review solving circuits with your students! A total of 36 cards in included in multiple formats:

• 1 card per page – great for projecting on a screen to have students work on as a question of the day, entrance ticket or exit card
• 4 cards on a page – makes for easy printing of task cards
• 4 of the same cards on a page – perfect if you will be giving each student the same card for bell work
• 3 cards on a page with lines - great for sending the questions home for homework or test review

The cards start off simple; the students will solve for voltage, current or resistance in series and parallel circuits. The questions become more complex, e.g. “determine the change in the voltage across load R1 if load R3 is removed.” Mixed circuits of varying complexity are also included. The last few questions require the use of problem solving, calculations and logic, e.g. “which load has the greatest voltage across it? Prove it.” (Sure, students could just solve the whole circuit, but I like to encourage my students to use logic in place of brute force calculations.)

Here is the breakdown:
• 11 series circuit task cards
• 11 parallel circuit task cards
• 13 mixed circuit task cards
• 1 “design a circuit” card

The files are available in PDF format. I’ve also included the template as an EDITABLE PPTX PowerPoint files if you would like to create your own cards to add to this set. Note: the 36 cards are not editable.

Full solutions are included.

Check out the PREVIEW for a closer look.

Enjoy!

Ontario Teachers: This resource aligns with the Ontario’s Secondary Science Curriculum: Electricity Unit in SNC1D and in Grade 11 University Physics SPH3U. Students in Grade 11 exposed to Kirchhoff’s Laws will find the complex circuits increase in difficulty.
