Description

This is a fun classic biology lab that demonstrates osmosis! The lab handout has students take 3 measurements: side to side circumference, top to bottom circumference, and mass. Students then soak their egg in vinegar for 48 hours and repeat the measurements (they also record qualitative observations before & after soaking the egg). Next, students analyze their data, collect classroom data from each group on mass, and then graph (bar graph) how much mass each groups egg gained. After this students read and answer some questions about osmosis and the cell membrane. The last step of having students soak their eggs in food coloring is optional but a fun extra step.
