Description
Your students will enjoy learning while playing this editable classic board game of Candy land! This game has an easy, auto-fill feature. Simply enter any 36 sight words on page 1, and they will be auto-populated onto the 36 candy land cards. It is really that simple! All items entered will auto-size to fit, so your words can be as long as you need. Since this game is editable, you are definitely not limited to just sight words. You can fill the game board with sight words, math facts, phonics skills, or anything else your are studying! This product includes the game board, game cards, and player tokens. Note: the game board and game cards MUST be printed in color. I would suggest laminating for durability.
To play, students share a Candy land game board with 2-4 players. Place all the candy cards in a pile next to the board. Have students choose a colored token to move around the board. For fun, use Smarties or Skittles as tokens. You can also use a real candy land board if you want a bigger and more durable game board.
The rules of the game are simple and are the same as the classic board game. Players take turns drawing cards from a pile, reading the sight word off the card, and moving their piece towards the candy castle. Cards either contain a single color block (with 1 sight word), two color blocks (with 2 sight words), or a picture of a place on the board. The single color blocks allow you to move forward to that corresponding color on the path. If two color blocks are drawn, then you move forward to the second matching color. If a pink picture card is drawn, the player must move forward or backward to the spot that matches the picture on the card. After moving their marker, the player places the card used in a discard pile. All the cards have editable sight words on them. Have your students read the words on the card before moving their token down the path. If using math facts instead of sight words, have students solve the math fact on the card drawn before moving their token.
There are two shortcuts on the board, players must land exactly on the entry point to that shortcut. If a player lands on the shortcut, then they move their piece forward to the ending point of that shortcut.
If a player lands on a licorice space on the board, then that player loses their next turn. The first player to reach the castle is declared the winner of candy land!
