What are KWL charts?: The acronym stands for 'know', 'want to know', and 'learned'. This is a type of graphic organizer used throughout a unit. It shows students prior knowledge when beginning a unit. It also shows what students want to learn, which helps guide your lesson planning. At the end of the unit, students use the same paper to share what they learned. It is a great way to introduce and reflect on a unit!
How do students use this? When beginning a unit, students write what they already know about it. They also write what they want to learn more about. When the unit is over, they use the same paper to write about new content they learned.
