    Description

Introduce your third graders to the fascinating world of ecosystems with these 8 different science stations! With a focus on NGSS 3-LS2.C and 3-LS4.D, students will learn about concepts such as food chains, food webs, traits of organism change due to environmental changes, how animals affect their environment, invasive species, and biomes. These engaging and interactive stations are the perfect way to help your students deepen their understanding of how plants and animals live together within an ecosystem.

    Ecosystems and Biodiversity Stations Include

Vocabulary Cards in two formats with and without pictures.

Watch a Video About Food Chains and Food Webs - Students watch a video about Food Chains and Food Webs and answer questions. Allow students to choose the video or have them do both.

Play a Game About Ecosystems and Food Chains - Students interact with a video game about the food chains. There are two different video games. Each video game has its own set of questions and task cards.

Investigate Environmental Changes in Ecosystems - Students investigate the changing environment affects the traits of organisms and how it leads to the process of natural selection.

Diagram the Otter Food Chain - Students create a diagram of an otter food chain in an ecosystem and learn how the changes in an environment, both natural and human, affect the food chain.

Read About Beaver Homes - Students read a passage about beavers and learn how beavers can change a forest river ecosystem.

Model Deforestation and Conservation - Students learn about the effects of deforestation and conservation.

Explore Food Chains & Invasive Species - Students explore a diagram showing food chains in an ecosystem and learn what happens when an invasive species is introduced.

Sort Animals Into Biomes - Students sort organisms into natural biomes.

    Google Classroom™️ Components Include:

► Google Forms™️ with Reading Passages, Differentiated Questions and Links to the Videos and Games (all stations)

► Google Slides™️ with Activity Directions & Worksheets to record results (Investigate, Diagram, Model, Explore, and Sort)

    Differentiated Responses

Each station includes four different ways to respond to the experience at the station: short answer questions, fill-in-the-blank questions, task cards with short answers, task cards with multiple choice. All the variations are similar to one another. Choose the format that best fits your classroom and students. Students are encouraged to use their science journal, but worksheets are included as well.

Some stations include two or more activity choices and extension activities.

Each station is designed to last about 15-20 minutes. Students may do one a day for 8 days, 2 a day for four days, or any format that works for your classroom. Because there are additional activities for the Watch and Play stations, you can offer those a choice within that station or offer them as an early finisher station, as well.

See the preview for additional information and details.

    NGSS3-LS4-3
Construct an argument with evidence that in a particular habitat some organisms can survive well, some survive less well, and some cannot survive at all. Examples of evidence could include needs and characteristics of the organisms and habitats involved. The organisms and their habitat make up a system in which the parts depend on each other.
    NGSS3-LS4-4
Make a claim about the merit of a solution to a problem caused when the environment changes and the types of plants and animals that live there may change. Examples of environmental changes could include changes in land characteristics, water distribution, temperature, food, and other organisms. Assessment is limited to a single environmental change. Assessment does not include the greenhouse effect or climate change.
