Description
In this activity, students work in groups of four to create a weather report of the economic conditions. They use creativity and humor to apply their understandings of recessions and inflationary gaps as extreme "conditions" in the "forecast" of a desired region.
Within this report, students explain the expected impacts, interview a person "in the elements," and then pose an advice (policy) of how to respond to these extreme weather conditions. The document for this task includes an overview, rubric, and then the steps to prepare their live or recorded skits.
I just used this activity with my AP students after teaching them fiscal policy, and they loved coming up with fun and clever ways to present the somewhat dry content to each other! It was an easy and simple way to check their understandings of economic fluctuations and policy responses. It can be used for fiscal, monetary, or supply side policies.
Make policy fun by adding this student-centered and collaborative task into your classes!
