Most high school students don’t know what Economics is on the first day of school! This FUN and ENGAGING back to school activity is a great introduction to the basic concepts covered at the beginning of the year. Students work in collaborative groups to make decisions about a scarce resource – Dialysis Machine treatments. A quick debrief google slides presentation at the end of the activity brings the fun back to a high energy discussion about SCARCITY, DECISION MAKING, COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS, OPPORTUNITY COSTS, ALTERNATIVES, AND COMMAND/FREE MARKET ECONOMIC SYSTEMS.
