What educators are saying

These math mysteries are such a hit with my accelerated 3rd grade class. I have them work on them with math partners and they are very engaged the whole time.
I love that I can give the same story to all of my students and only the problems are different so it looks like all the kids are doing the exact same thing and no one stands out.
Also included in
  1. This Math Quest Bundle contains all of my Math Quests up to date. All math difficulty levels included for each quest (Easy, Medium and Hard), which is useful for differentiation and customizing the activity to suit your student needs. Please note that Math Quests are different to the Math Mysteries

What is a Math Quest?

It begins with a story, as in the video hook. Then continues in 'chapters.' Each chapter reveals the next part of the story, posing a math task to complete. Once the math task is complete, students may progress to the next chapter. The final chapter will present some choices for actions to take in the story. Students make their choice and then complete the math in that section, carrying out instructions to receive a 'special number.' If they do the math correctly, the special number will match up to their ending of the story on the final page. Four alternate endings to receive!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What do I use Math Quests for?

Math quests are great to use for enrichment, early finishers, homework, sub-tubs, or as a special way to get lots of math practice in with a fun twist. Set as independent work or pairs to go on this story adventure. This is an ideal activity to use in the lead up to Easter to keep your students engaged while actively learning.

Preparation & Set-Up

Easy prep!

You will need to print, photocopy and have the video ready for viewing to complete this activity. The video hook is for (optional) viewing before starting the paper part of this task. The math component of this activity is on paper, with each chapter presenting a part of the story to read and a math task/challenge or puzzle to 'progress' through the story. At the end of the story, students will be given choices, which leads to one of four alternative endings for them.

Certificates Included!

Printable certificates provided to give to students who complete the Math Quest.
