Description
An earthworm dissection is an invaluable learning experience because the structures are surprisingly easy to see and identify! Make this dissection experience as impactful as possible by including these earthworm dissection resources.
*No prior learning is required prior to this dissection! I personally use this resource during the Annelida Unit in my Zoology course.
Structures covered by this earthworm dissection: dorsal, ventral, anterior, posterior, prostomium, pygidium, mouth, anus, clitellum, setae, male genital pores, septa, dorsal blood vessel, ventral blood vessel, aortic arches, seminal vesicles, spermatheca, pharynx, esophagus, crop, gizzard, intestine, anus
Included in this activity:
- 2 page teacher guide
- 4-page dissection packet
- Physiology chart (lists what each structure does)
- Internal and external anatomy diagram
- Conclusion question page
- Labeling review activity
- BINGO review activity
- 15-minute video companion to the dissection
- Digital versions to all resources except BINGO (through Google Slides™)
How long will this activity take?
My learners typically finish the dissection in 45-60 minutes. The additional review activities (optional, but fun and meaningful) can take anywhere from 30-60 minutes.
Who can complete this activity?
It was designed for students in 9th through 12th grade, but the language is concise and easy-to-understand. 7th and 8th grade learners will still be able to complete it!
What makes this resource so special?
- The 4-page lab packet actually explains how to find each structure and what each structure does.
- The text in all of the resources is editable, allowing you to change this resource to meet your needs.
- The pictures provided in all resources are crisp and clear, allowing your students to easily navigate the anatomy of the earthworm.
- This resource provides two to three full days of activities that all tie together, creating a cohesive and impactful learning experience.
- The included video serves as a suitable substitute for dissection-hesitant students or absent students.
