What educators are saying

My students not only were able to learn from this activity but they were also able to have fun with it.
I love the colored pictures that are in the articles! These are a great way to review information from the lessons.

    Description

***Now includes a digital update!*** The comprehension questions for all four texts are now available as a Google Form quiz. If you already own this product, just re-download to access the links!

The Four Spheres bundle consists of four informational texts with comprehension questions: "The Hydrosphere," "The Biosphere," "The Atmosphere," and "The Geosphere". It also includes Placemat Notes and an Inquiry Activity for sphere interactions.

The four spheres texts are based off of the 5th grade NGSS standard 5-ESS2-1. The standard states that students should be able to describe ways the four spheres interact. The "Placemat Notes" included in this bundle help guide students through an inquiry of how the spheres interact. This is all part of a larger unit I've planned on plastics in the ocean. I hope to continue adding to this bundle the other resources I've created to support my unit.

These informational texts about Earth's four spheres are a great way to integrate science and ELA. You will be able to teach important science standards while not taking away from any of your precious ELA time.

"The Hydrosphere" Objectives: Students will gain a deeper understanding of what the hydrosphere is, as well as the vital role it plays in sustaining the biosphere, in other words, LIFE.

"The Biosphere" Objectives: Students will gain a deeper understanding of what the biosphere is, its history, how it sustains itself through complex systems, and humans' impact on the biosphere.

"The Atmosphere" Objectives: Students will gain a deeper understanding of what the atmosphere is and how it supports life on Earth, as well as knowledge about each of the atmosphere's five layers: troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere and exosphere.

"The Geosphere" Objectives: Students will gain a deeper understanding of the components of the geosphere, the layers of Earth, and tectonic activity.

Four Spheres Notes Objectives: Students will record what they Know, Want to know, and Learn about each of the four spheres, as well as inquire as to how the four spheres interact to complete various processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, erosion, etc.

    What's included in each text:

    • A magazine-like informational text with bolded vocabulary words, headings, and images.

    • A printer-friendly, text-only version of the same informational text.

    • Comprehension questions (short answer, multiple choice, check boxes, fill in the blank, and more)

    • Answer key

    I'm glad you're here! Enjoy!

    xoxo,

    Kelsey
