Description

This review aligns with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS):

"STANDARD 8 - The Universe and Practices of Science.

The competent science teacher understands and applies accepted practices and implications of science in contemporary and historical contexts.

8B. understands the properties and dynamics of objects external to the solar system.

8F. compares the processes involved in the life cycle of objects within the galaxies, including their physical and chemical characteristics.

8G. demonstrates the ability to use instruments or to explain functions of the technologies and tools used in the study of the space sciences."

Interactive review of the third PowerPoint lesson in the unit on "Stars and Galaxies." The program reviews how astronomers classify stars and how they evolve.

The review contains 20 multiple choice; true/false and numeric responses. A PDF student study guide/worksheet can also be generated using this program.

PowerPoint lessons contain many graphics and at least two links to short videos to further student understanding.

PowerPoint slides also contain notes for the instructor based on students most "frequently asked questions" or FAQ's to help clarify the subject.

A class activity is included at the end of each lesson.

* All PowerPoint lessons; ActivInspire programs; student note sheets/activities and assessments for this unit can be found under the "Earth/Space Complete Unit XIV Stars and Galaxies" zip file folder.

Determine the meaning of symbols, key terms, and other domain-specific words and phrases as they are used in a specific scientific or technical context relevant to grades 6–8 texts and topics.
Integrate quantitative or technical information expressed in words in a text with a version of that information expressed visually (e.g., in a flowchart, diagram, model, graph, or table).
Compare and contrast the information gained from experiments, simulations, video, or multimedia sources with that gained from reading a text on the same topic.
By the end of grade 10, read and comprehend science/technical texts in the grades 9–10 text complexity band independently and proficiently.
