What educators are saying

I used this as a fun activity in my adult ed GED class after we learned about types of government and how our government works. Excellent resource! We had a blast with it.
My students really loved this activity. They had a great time debating what to and not to include in their new country. Used activity after presenting on AOC, next year will reverse to show how difficult it is for groups to agree on just one idea

Description

Personal Note: My students LOVED this project. I used it after teaching the American Revolution and before introducing the Articles of Confederation. There was a LOT of debating among the groups, even though I let them choose the groups! Be prepared for this activity to last several classes, as students will debate the issues for as long as you let them. It was a great introduction for the Constitutional Convention, as I reminded them of how difficult it was for their groups of 3-4 to form a government... so just imagine what the Convention was like!

This versatile activity could be used for teaching about the Articles of Confederation, the Constitutional Convention, or really just about anything related to government!

Geared for middle and high school students, this activity asks students to work in groups to create a new country - everything from its name, flag, to its inner-workings (laws, government structure, leaders, etc). Students can create a poster to present to class, and then vote which country they'd like to live in most!
