With this lesson students will:

1. Listen to a piano audio file playing a series of 2, 3 or 4 notes. They can play it as many times as they would like.

2. Then, they will select the answer out of 4 choices. If they are incorrect they will be sent back to the same question. If they are correct they will move onto the next question.

3. I have a FREE copy of the student answer sheet (with a teacher answer key) >>>here<<<, to be filled out with the quiz as they go. Students should fill in the correct answers once they get the question correct!

There are 30 questions in total, all in the key of C Major, and all diatonic (no chromatic notes/syllables). The first note in every example is always Do.

The first 10 questions or so are all 2 notes, and students are asked to identify the second note. The first note is always Do.

The next 10 or so ask students to identify 3 notes. Each example begins with Do.

The last 10 or so questions ask students to identify 4 notes. Each example begins with Do.

Students can practice with this over and over again until they have trained their ear to a level 1 standard. Practicing in one key is important, in my opinion, because I have found students do better understanding the relationship of the syllables to each other. Then, they can relate that relationship to other keys easier at the higher and harder levels. If they understand the syllables and their relationship, putting it to the music sight reading becomes that much easier!
