Units Description
Unit 1: Short Stories
Students are invited to read widely and explore the themes and structure of different short stories.
Unit 2-Novel Study (Of Mice and Men by JohnSteinbeck)
Students will read John Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men. In doing so, they will explore themes such as The Impossibility Of The American Dream. Students will extend their prior knowledge of characters’/character development (actions, feelings, motivations, and traits), the narrative voice, and how dialogue communicates character identity all the while trying to find the answer to this unit’s big question.
Unit 3-Multiculturalism and Canada
Students will learn about multiculturalism and diversity. They will learn about different foods, customs, beliefs and values, culture, and so on. Students will learn and use new vocabulary related to the theme of health. For their summative task, students will demonstrate understanding and accurate application of their respective Language Reference Charts, as well as complete research-based presentation on a culture other than their own and compare/contrast it to their own.
Unit 4-Media
