What educators are saying

My students enjoyed picking and finding words that start with a certain letter and I loved that I was able to incorporate using prepositions for them to describe where the vocab they are saying is located. Thank you!
I love this! It has been so fun to use with ELA students. They are engaged and having fun while learning new english vocab! Is the rest of the alphabet available? D-Z?

Description

Vocabulary games improve ALL the target ESL skills – Listening, Speaking, Reading, & Writing!

My ESL students have started to beg to play these Vocab Bursts, so I've even started using them as a class reward for the last 5 minutes of class if everyone's on task during our daily intervention block. English Learners (ELs) actually ENJOY bolstering their vocabulary in these fun, visually-rich games.

In these Vocab Burst games, it's a race to write down as many words as you can, based on what you find in the letter's picture collage!

• The initial letter tells you what words to look for in the Burst.

• For example, if the Burst’s letter is W, you look in the picture collage for things like a wagon, water, wax, and any other W words you can find. Feel free to be creative with the words you write down!

• Once the timer starts, players list as many words as they can for the round’s letter, based on what they found in the Burst (picture collage).

Why play games??? Children learn best when they are having fun! The positive environment of playing a game actually helps the brain internalize & retain learning.

If your ELs are anything like mine, when it comes to scoring points in a Vocab Burst – they’ll suddenly become suffix and word variation experts!

Building vocabulary specifically through games boosts critical ESL skills like communication, visualization, and memory recall.

You can even deploy these Vocab Bursts to your students as Google Slides using the links included in this product.

Games are a teacher’s best tool for cultivating a positive attitude toward learning & creating robust lexicons. Your ESL students will gain a wider vocabulary to help them demonstrate growth & progress on their next big state assessment, such as TELPAS.

Language learning CAN be more effective and enjoyable – through games!
