Description

I created this SmartBoard file for my own personal use with a read aloud of Camping With the President by Ginger Wadsworth in conjunction with the NYC Grade 4 John Muir Common Core Task Bundle.

Common Core Standards RI.4.1 and RI. 4.10.

Slide 1: Discuss who John Muir was and his conservation efforts.
Read aloud Camping With the President by Ginger Wadsworth.

Slide 2: Review vocabulary and what it means to be a conservationist.

Slide 3: Describe the setting of the story

Slide 4: Identify John Muir’s characteristics.
Students can drag an adjective to the list.

Slide 5: Compare and Contrast the characters from the story.
John Muir vs Theodore Roosevelt

Slide 6: Students recall details as they sequence events from the story, from beginning to end. Use the graphic organizer. Students may illustrate their response when done.

Slide 7: This slide includes a link to a clip that explains and depicts the unusual meeting between Roosevelt and Muir in California’s Yosemite Valley and discussion questions.
