E-Learning: Getting To Know You: Beginning of the Year Activity: Writing

I hope you love this activity as much as I do! This package can be used at any grade level 1st-8th. I included the standards for all grade levels. This package aligns with to CCSS. This package is a great E-Learning opportunity that engages the students, fosters writing opportunities, and provides peer collaboration! This package will roughly take 4 days or class periods to complete. It is all 100%. editable.

Activity Description: Students will first make a graphic using Canva to create a visual poster that represents them. Students will be encouraged to add graphics about their family, friends, sport, favorite colors, and favorite foods! Students will screenshot their graphic and upload it onto a slide. To the right of the slide the students will write a narrative about themselves. Encourage them to explain their poster or graphic within their writing. I mandated a minimum of 10 sentences, but this activity can be used at any grade level just lower or increase the length. The slide show is 100% editable you just have to make a copy! After students finish making their graphics and writing their narratives they will participate in a seek and find web quest. I made this a competition to raise student interest, but you don’t have to. Students will learn about each other by finding students with certain traits. For example. “Find a student whose favorite color is yellow.” The student will then write the students name. I offered 1 point per name in their web quest and the winner gets candy!. IMPORTANT: More than one student can be the answer to a question. So, more than one point can be awarded to each question. Students will tally their points at the end of the web quest!
