Description

My students love this lesson. They learn how societies can be oppressive, read about different types, and then create their own laws to see how they can become oppressive. This lesson provides students with an introduction to the characteristics of a dystopia and dystopia genre. It begins by contrasting utopia vs dystopia, continues with 3 examples of societies (2 dystopian, 1 utopian) and has students underline the characteristics, and ends with students creating their own well-intentioned laws and seeing how they can end up dystopian. It includes a narrative for teachers to follow, lesson objective, core standard, materials, and how to differentiate for sped. I hope your students love this as much as mine!
