Description
This Civic Duties & Responsibilities Article & Picture Analysis is perfect for teaching Civic Duties and Responsibilities to any middle school Civics or American Government class! Includes both a printable version and two digital versions — a TPT Easel Activity, and a link to a Google Slides version!
Aligned to the Florida State Standards for middle school Civics SS.7.CG.2.2 Citizen Obligations & Responsibilities, this 3-page article and matching activity keeps students engaged as they learn about the obligations and responsibilities of citizenship.
This resource includes:
✯ Civic Duties & Responsibilities Article (Print: 3 pages, Google Slides: 6 slides)
- Covers the Civic Duties: Paying Taxes, Obeying the Law, Jury Duty, Selective Service, and Attending School in a visually-interesting article that includes specific examples and questions throughout.
- Also covered are five Civic Responsibilities: Voting, Helping Your Community, Respecting the Rights of Others, Being an Informed Citizen, and Participating in Your Government.
Questions throughout the article gauge understanding of the material. Such questions include:
- What is the difference between a duty and a responsibility?
- What would happen if we stopped fulfilling our civic duties?
- Choose one of the responsibilities of citizenship listed and write 1-2 sentences on how you think it helps benefit the common good.
In this way, the students are asked to evaluate both the benefits and impacts of our civic obligations and responsibilities.
✯ Also included is a Civic Duties Picture Analysis Activity. (Print: 1 page; Digital: 2 slides)
- Students are presented with five images depicting a different civic duty. Students analyze and describe each image, then identify which duty it represents. This is a great way to help the students make visual connections to the concepts!
When you purchase this resource, you will download a non-editable, printable PDF that contains the printable version of the article as well as the link to the digital Google Slides document. There will be instructions on how to upload the digital version to your Google Classroom, as well as all Answer Keys.
