What educators are saying

I enjoy reading/singing books in the music classroom. This was a great resource to pair with the book. Students enjoyed connecting and sharing their experiences as well.
This is a great way to incorporate hispanic heritage month and more books in my classroom. I also think it would be good for the sub tub. Thanks so much!

Description

I am currently working to add more children's books into my elementary music lessons. This Drum Dream Girl is always a huge hit with my elementary music students-- especially during Hispanic Heritage Month!

This lesson is based off of the book Drum Dream Girl. I found this book in my school's library and it was PERFECT for my lessons. It is based on the true story of Millo Castro Zaldarriaga, a famous percussionist that broke the taboo on female drummers in Cuba! It mentions many different styles of music while telling the story of this amazing musician.

These activities are all print and go. There are a variety of worksheets that span from comprehension questions to composing music to designing your own bongos. This was done on purpose so that students can experience writing, writing music (like Millo did!), and find out more about different drums!

Although this is meant for the elementary music teacher, you could also leave this (or at least parts of this!) for a sub!

Includes:

  • 12 print and go lesson extension pages for students to complete
