What educators are saying

It was great to use these resources for added practice and extra help for some students while learning about various animals that each grade level was learning about for their fundraiser project.

Description

This packet is designed to meet students at their varying drawing abilities. Students can choose where they are comfortable.

Some students will be able to draw from the photo. Others will be able to draw from the contour black line drawing (the black outline). Others will still need guided drawing steps.

Learning Objective: Students will begin to look for shapes when drawing from a photograph.

Animals:

  • Toucan
  • Cardinal
  • Angelfish
  • Sea Turtle
  • Sea Horse
  • Lionfish
  • Parrot Head
  • Parrot
  • Chameleon

For Each Animal:

  • a small photo
  • a small black line drawing
  • a large photo
  • a large black line drawing

Teacher Note: I have used these with my K-5 students over the past 10 years with great success. I love watching what they will choose, the photo, the black line drawing, or the guided drawing steps. Some will want to choose the photo but peek at the step by step page for hints. Whichever way they choose, I encourage them to look at the photo and draw what they SEE.

Extra Tip: I have also "laminated" the photo using packaging tape so students can draw shapes ON the photo before they begin. This also helps them to begin to identify the shapes within the photo.
