Description

This is a comprehensive list of 167 diverse children’s books for classroom or home. Information includes book title, author, Lexile score, and primary diverse group representation. The purpose of this list is twofold:

1. Representation. Provide children with books with main characters and story lines that represent them, their families, their culture, and their experiences.

2. “Windows.” Provide all children access to characters and stories they may not be familiar with in their daily lives.

Categories of primary representation are:

· female main characters (of various backgrounds)

· African-American main character(s) and stories

· Asian main character(s) and stories

· Latinx (Hispanic, Latino, Latina) main character(s) and stories

· Native American main character(s) and stories

· LGBTQ+ main character(s) and stories

· main character(s) who live outside of the United States

· main character(s) living in or experiencing poverty

· main character(s) with disabilities (physical and neurological)
