What educators are saying

This really helped my students with a skill that was initially tricky for them. They got it very quickly with this practice. Thank you!
This was a very well done resource to teach and reinforce the coordinate plane. Easy for both my students and me to follow.

What are teachers saying about these “Quadrant 1 Coordinate Plane Notes”?

  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ”I was having trouble finding a resource that required students to think about what was happening in the coordinate plane.  I thought this covered the standard well.” -Amy E.

  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “My students enjoyed this activity and were fully engaged.” -Olivia N.
  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ”I used this lesson during intervention! Great resource for reinforcement.” -Aaron R.

How can I use this “Plotting Ordered Pairs to Solve Real-World Problems” Packet?

  • Supplement your core curriculum
  • Reteach or remediation unit
  • Small group math intervention
  • Tutoring or homeschool
  • Test-prep

What type of questions can I expect in these quadrant one coordinate plane notes?

  • Students are asked to give directions from one point in the coordinate plane to another.
  • Students are asked to follow directions from a given point to a new point and give the coordinates.
  • Students are asked to name two ordered pairs that have the same x-coordinate or same y-coordinate.
  • Students are asked to name points that are located on the x-axis or the y-axis (Quadrant 1 coordinate plane only).
  • Students are asked to connect multiple points to form a two-dimensional shape (and classify the shape).
  • Students practice plotting ordered pairs to create 2D shape by adding a new vertex.

What does Sally's “gradual release model” entail?

  • Sally’s lessons follow an “I Do, We Do, You Do” format.  A math concept is introduced whole group, students then practice with a partner, and finish with independent work time.  This deliberate scaffolding keeps students from feeling defeated or frustrated!
  • Sally’s packets also build slowly in difficulty.  We meet students where they are, regardless of level.  As students gain confidence, the problems get progressively harder.  Not all students will complete all problems and that is by design!
  • Each packet finishes with a “Challenge Page” for anyone who needs something extra!  Multiple pages of practice are included in every packet to avoid early finishers.

This coordinate plane packet is common core aligned to 5.G.2, which covers problem-solving while plotting ordered pairs in quadrant 1 coordinate plane.

In addition, the instructional guide is jam-packed with coordinate plane teaching hacks and best practices for using quadrant 1 coordinate plane.  There is also a “Misconceptions” section that allows you to be one step ahead of mistakes students are most likely to make!
