Distance Learning No Prep: Plan Your Dream Vacation Project

Are you looking for a fun activity for your students to do to apply their math problem solving skills? This project is perfect for self-directed or distance learning. Students will love planning their virtual dream vacation, researching, and making the decisions.

My classes will be working on this resource I designed for them to explore a useful real world skill, vacation planning! I developed this resource last year for my fourth graders, and I am lucky enough to have the same class as fifth graders this year. My class LOVED this, and I was so proud of their higher level thinking and motivation. We actually ran out of school time last year, so now we are finishing this project and presenting it in the weeks to come. Students use the Internet and guided tasks to research each element of vacation planning and then make informed decisions based upon their findings. I gave my students total freedom in choice of destination and no limit to spending. Sometimes you have to let them dream BIG!

It will take weeks to complete the project, and it is a perfect way to end the school year. It could also be done throughout the school year, as students have extra time.

I have added some peer and teacher assessments to assess the student's work throughout their research and on their presentation. Have fun!
