What educators are saying

I used this resource on the week I introduced the penny. I loved how this experiment worksheet is organized. My students loved being able to circle their hypothesis and experiment result.

Description

Your class will love this simple experiment. This outlines all of the steps of scientific investigation. The students have to come up with a question, make a hypothesis, conduct an experiment, show their results, and come up with a conclusion. Each step is clearly outlined and explained.

For my class, I just had to explain the process, give them a definition of a hypothesis (letting them know it's okay to be wrong!), and then explain why the salt and vinegar is the winner (sorry to give it away :) ).

The conclusion can be explained as:
The acid in vinegar reacts with the salt to get the copper clean and shiny. Ir removes something called "copper oxide," which is what makes pennies dull. If you do not first rinse the penny with water and just let the salt and vinegar air dry on the penny, it will turn green...just like the Statue of Liberty!
