The product has 26 unique slides with 2 pictures or photos on each slide to use as discussion or writing prompts while comparing the similarities and differences of animals. This can be used a morning work, science lesson, or a writing assignment.

While sharing whole group for a discussion it is interesting to hear what different students call or name different animals, etc. in the pictures and what their experiences or knowledge is of with items in the pictures. These conversations help develop vocabulary and build relationships by bonding over ideas, common experiences and beliefs while also teaching science and writing.

If you are looking for a way for cross curricular instruction and integrating science into writing lessons, this is the perfect option. There are two sheets that you can print off for students to draw a picture of each animals they are comparing and space to write the similarities and differences they see in the animals. The printable pages I included have writing line for younger students to use, but this product could truly be used for older students as well depending on the discussion that you and the students have about the animals in the photographs.

These are Science of Reading aligned and help build background knowledge as well as the ability to make inferences based on pictures.
