What educators are saying

This is an awesome resource. I really like to use these for extra practice and to reinforce key skills.
My students LOVE these! They are great to leave with a supply teacher or instead of "Free Time Friday". It's fun, engaging but students are still learning!

Description

CSI Digital Math Mystery GAME. The Case of The Super Bad Superhero is now available in a digital game format and can be played on any device with an Internet connection. The clues and Super Bad Superhero are different from the paper version of this math mystery so you can use without your students knowing the clues or the mystery answer if they have already done the paper version of this case.

<CLICK HERE> to trial a sample of a math game to see if these types of games work on the device you plan to use to complete.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Implementation Tip: Turn it into a competition to see who can solve the mystery first in your classroom OR set a timer with a limit that everyone must aim to beat to solve the case (or single clue if you prefer to break it up into smaller chunks).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MATH SKILLS:

There are THREE LEVELS of the game to choose to play. The Mystery outcome is different at the end of each level, so you can choose to play both and the Super Bad Superhero will be different in each.

  • LEVEL 1 - Repeated Addition
  • LEVEL 2 - Multiplication Facts (1-12)
  • LEVEL 3 - Multiplying with larger numbers (multiples of ten, double-digit by single-digit, double-digit by double-digit, and triple-digit (multiple of tens only) by single-digit problems. )

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What's the same from the paper math mystery?

  • The video hook intro
  • Correct answering of math questions to unlock clues
  • Eliminating suspects in clues 1-4

What's different from the paper math mystery?

  • No printing or photocopying required
  • The math questions are different
  • Lots of graphics
  • The answers are presented in multiple choices for students to search and find answers.
  • Clicking/tapping on the correct answer unlocks the letter and places it into the boxes for you instead of manual input.
  • Cannot clue jump, completion of each clue unlocks access to the next clue.
  • After clue 5, your student will have to find the Super Bad Superhero, then a bonus round is on!
  • A short video clip at the end of the game.
  • The mystery solution is not the same as the paper copy

What you will need:

  • Internet connection
  • The ‘digital keys’ provided in this download.
  • Computer access – this can be used on any device with an internet connection and browser e.g. PCs, Macs, IWB, and tablet devices.
  • Optional: print the tracking and recording page provided in this download. However, this is easily substituted with a workbook or plain piece of paper if you prefer to skip printing or photocopying this page.
  • To share the game is by sharing either the links or the pdf files provided in the download. You may need to do this by uploading to a classroom shared drive or by email. However, I've now also upgraded this resource to include a Google Doc option and QR codes as another way to share the links.

Implementation suggestions

There are many ways to use this resource, some include:

  • Complete as a whole class on your Interactive Whiteboard. Students take turns to answer the questions.
  • Assign to your students to complete independently or in pairs on a device. This could be something they do as an early finisher task, during your math block, or for homework.
  • Optional: Add a timer per clue or solve the whole mystery to make it like a digital escape room! Another option is to team up small groups and make it a competition to see who can solve it first!

  • I have tested this game many times, but a glitch or two may have been missed. Please let me know if you come across any problems and I will fix. Also please contact me with any other technical difficulties. My email is jjresourcecreations@gmail.com

Common Chromebook troubleshooting tip: You can allow or block permissions for a specific site. The site will use its settings instead of the default settings. You can also clear data for a site.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome .
  2. Go to a website.
  3. To the left of the web address, click the icon you see: Lock , Info , or Dangerous
  4. Click Site settings.
  5. Change a permission setting. Your changes will automatically save.

If none of the above work, please contact me on jjresourcecreations@gmail.com

As with all technology, issues may sometimes arise that are beyond my control. However, I will do my best to work with you and aim to resolve any problems should you experience any.

Sharing with Students

There are a few ways you may choose to share the game with your students:

  • The student pages with clickable links are available in EASEL by TPT. When opening Easel, choose which math level you want to keep (top corner marked L1, L2, and L3 for math levels) and delete the other level pages before assigning the game to your students.
  • Assign the Google Slide link provided via Google Classroom
  • Email the game links to your students.
  • Use the QR codes provided for students to scan. These can be printed or shown on the IWB for students to scan from.
  • Do as a class on the IWB with your access to the links only.
  • If all of the above fails, or if you need help, you can send an email to me and we can try to resolve the issue.

Clue Access

After completing a clue, your students will need to write down the password and use it to unlock the next clue.

Math Level Access

There are THREE LEVELS to choose from. Select the Level you wish to play, then follow the link prompts to get started with the game.
