Description

"Greetings Scholars,
In this lesson, you will explore the world of Social Networks. Below, you will find several articles on social networks.
1. Skim through each topic and article.
2. Chose the one that interest you most.
3. Request the materials for your task.
4. Review and complete the task for your article.
5. Share your work with the class.

Make sure your work is presented neatly and demonstrates a clear understanding of your topic."

This is the introduction your students will view at the beginning of this lesson.

Teachers, this is a great activity to do with scholars from grades 3-12.
In this activity, scholars are given 8 articles to which they must complete a specific task.

Each article is short and to the point.

Scholars gain a better understanding of what a social network is and how it works.
#2 Find the Right Network
Scholars learn the importance of choosing age- appropriate websites.
#3 Games and More

#4 When you Join a Social Network

#5 Create a Profile

#5 Terms of Use

#7 Cyberbullying

#8 Predators Online

In addition, each article has a wealth of new vocabulary that has been formatted in bold to spark class discussions and further their understanding of this topic.

I have also included the following:
10 Safety Tips to help them stay safe online
Glossary of new vocabulary

Lastly, each article is accompanied by a creative task that each student can complete.
Task include:
Writing a short skit/play
Creating a comic strip
Writing an informational article
Designing a web page (mock)
Creating a character
Developing a Top Ten List
Etc.

You can use this activity pack as a choice board or a Unit of Study.
You can be as creative as you choose.

I use this on Edmodo with my students to spark interesting conversations as well as share ideas about Social Networking.

I am sure you and your scholars will enjoy this resource.

Sincerely,
Sabrina Satterfield-Brown
