Description
This is a collection of sample pages from the differentiated story templates set.
This set can be used as an independent literacy center, a writers workshop task, or a whole group morning writing job. I like to have the pages spread out so students can each come and choose their own animal and then feel more excited about the writing!
Depending on their ability, students will be encouraged to:
1. Trace or draw the picture
2. Label the picture with words provided
3. Copy the simple sentences correctly, with capitalization and punctuation.
4. Stretch each simple sentence by adding descriptive words and details. They work on one sentence at a time.
5. The first three sentences create a story starter. Students simply read over what they've written, and continue to finish the story.
I have them copy the word "Suddenly..." after the first three enhanced sentences to move the story along.
6. Depending on student ability, the stories can be as long and complex as needed. This can later incorporate vocabulary, self-editing, peer editing, writers workshop, etc.
