Differentiated ACTFL Aligned World Language Writing Rubric
Description
This ACTFL- aligned rubric is applicable to any and all writing assessments you may ever give in your world language classroom. This is the only rubric I ever use for writing assessments! From exit tickets to major essays, this rubric has you covered.
One of my greatest challenges in a highly heterogeneous classroom has been: "How do I create a fair, equitable, and rigorous rubric that both challenges all my different learners, but also meets them where they are at?" Creating this multi-level rubric has solved that problem completely.
I have some students who were born in Spanish-speaking countries. I have some students who never had a language class prior to October of this school year. All my other students fall somewhere in between. This rubric allows me to challenge and push all of my students, regardless of their background with Spanish.
Students are able to clearly see how they can move up the ladder of language proficiency with this tool. The rubric itself helps to guide students in their writing revisions.
Each level breaks down into 3 different strands:
- Complexity/ variety of vocabulary
- Organization/ cohesiveness of ideas
- Comprehensibility
This Differentiated Rubric has been an absolute life saver for me and has completely changed my academic conversations with my students. Enjoy!
