Description

Calaveras are an important part of the Day of the Dead. In this engaging series of activities, students will explore the elements that make up calaveras in the following ways:

-Make observations about authentic calavera art

-Share their observations with fellow students

-Design and draw their own authentic calavera

-Interview two classmates about their calaveras (this page is provided in both Spanish and English)

-Write a short reflection about the process and results

This three-page activity should take one or two class periods, and is suitable for students at all levels of Spanish ability. The interview activity is provided in both Spanish and English to meet the needs of all of your students.

This activity will supplement other Día de los Muertos activities, or can be done as a stand-alone project. Instructions in English mean that this activity can easily be left with a substitute, as well.
