What educators are saying

My students loved using this resource. They enjoyed writing about their monster. The matching others' monster to the writing was a fun and engaging way to use descriptive writing.
This was aligned to the SOLs and was engaging for my students. I was able to meet the needs of all students in my inclusion classroom.

Description

Want a great engaging activity to get your students excited about descriptive writing - look no further! This Monster Match activity is perfect to introduce students to writing descriptive paragraphs and adding details in writing. As we know, details are what make writing interesting. Showing students how important they are engages them in the writing process.

Students get a chance to create or decorate a monster and then write a descriptive paragraph about their monster. Classmates or others (hallway display) can guess whose monster is who based on the description! My students had an absolute BLAST with this and we emphasized how important details are to our descriptive writing pieces!

This is perfect for literally any elementary classroom as it can be differentiated for many grade levels and is a quick activity to reinforce the concept of adding details and providing sensory details.

Included: rubric, writing templates, organizers, monster papers, directions, samples of work, cover slips, and thorough instructions for completion. This project will work great any time of the year as monsters get immediate attention!
