• Chameleon Sentences: Collaborative activity where step by step, students work together to add to or change a given sentence based on the instructions for each step. They will work to add adjectives, adverbs, possessive nouns, plural nouns, specific words vs. general words, synonyms, prepositional phrases and sentences (to create compound sentences). For each step, they will be aware of spelling or grammatical changes needed as they write their sentences based on the instructions.

• Spice It Up Task Cards: Students change a simple sentence into a more detailed sentence by adding their own ideas for specific details. This might be a good follow up after the Chameleon Sentences guided activity. Note that this resource is also found in the Writing Better Sentences Bundle, so if you have already purchased that one, you may want to consider if this is the best value for you before purchasing (I may add to this bundle in the future, but no guarantees are made.)

• Synonyms Color-by-Code Bookmarks and Synonyms Activities: Students color a bookmark according to synonyms for a group of overused words, such as happy, great, and pretty. Then there is a variety of follow up activities to help them understand the shades of meaning differences between the synonyms and practice using the words in their own sentences.
