This Declaration of Independence Matching Activity has students match primary source excerpts from the Declaration of Independence to modern day interpretations, and show their comprehension by illustrating each phrase! Suitable for middle school students studying American Government, Civics, and American History, this matching activity is hands-on enrichment for the central ideas and key concepts of the United States Declaration of Independence!
Compatible with the Florida State Standard for 7th Grade Civics, SS.7.CG.1.6. The Declaration of Independence, this resource includes both a non-editable, printable PDF version, a digital TPT Easel activity, and a digital Google Slides version, accessed through a link in the PDF.
In this activity, kids will:
✯ Read primary source excerpts from the Declaration of Independence.
✯ Highlight keywords and phrases.
✯ Match each quote from the Declaration with modern-day "In Our Own Words" summaries of the text.
✯ Draw an illustration that represents each quote.
This activity gets students thinking, and the cut-and-paste and drawing portions are hands-on, engaging, and fun!
This resource was designed to be used after my Understanding the Declaration of Independence Article & Review to reinforce the structure and key concepts of the Declaration.
When you purchase this resource, you will download a non-editable PDF that contains the printable version of the article as well as the link to the digital Google Slides document. There will be instructions on how to upload the digital version to your Google Classroom, as well as all Answer Keys. The link to the Google Slides document will have you click a button that says "Use Template", which will create a copy of the document in your Google Drive. You can also access the Easel digital activity right here on TPT, which can be assigned directly to your Google Classroom or shared with your students via a link!
