Description

This is an engaging lesson for students to visually see the decimal move in a number because of the powers of 10.

This lesson includes a 5 page play, teacher notes, game to play after play with all the materials.

Students will start with pre-reading the play, then choosing parts and acting out the play (there are 18 parts and a whole class part so everyone will be participating!). After the play, students will be divided up into groups of 6 or more to play a game that is reinforcing the skills they learned during the play.

This lesson is differentiated! See teachers notes!

Recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. For example, recognize that 700 ÷ 70 = 10 by applying concepts of place value and division.
Explain patterns in the number of zeros of the product when multiplying a number by powers of 10, and explain patterns in the placement of the decimal point when a decimal is multiplied or divided by a power of 10. Use whole-number exponents to denote powers of 10.
Write and evaluate numerical expressions involving whole-number exponents.
