Description

This decimal lapbook is a great math activity to help your students learn about decimals. Use these decimal fold-its to make a lapbook or use them in your math notebooks to teach the following topics. Topics covered in this lapbook include:

-What is a decimal definition?

-A fold-it to show how to read and write a decimal number.

-An equivalent fractions flip book showing decimal equivalents using decimal squares. (0.3, 0.30, 0.300)

-A comparing decimals flip book which explains how to compare decimals.

-A blank place value chart showing hundreds to thousandths.

-A mini book showing how to relate decimals to fractions using decimal squares.

-Four pockets, one for holding decimal number cards, decimal tenths, hundredths and thousandths.

-Cards with a picture of a decimal squares that are shaded and on the back the name of the decimal and how to say it in words.

-Two math mats to use along with the fold-its. One is a chart to aid with comparing decimal numbers and the other is "Show what you know about....". This math mat can be printed to show tenths, hundredths or thousandths.

This lapbook uses a legal size file folder. If using a letter size folder you would need to place some of the fold-its on the back of the file folder. Some of these fold-its could also be used in an interactive math notebook if you did not wish to make the lapbook.

What I like about the lapbook for my students is that once they are made they act as a reference tool for students to use at their desk. It is also a great tool to use during math workshop. Students can use the cards to order, compare or show equivalent decimals.

Includes: Tenths, hundredths and thousandths.
