Description

Engage students in this decimal project that relates decimal operations & decimal place value to the real-world! These activities cover decimal place value, powers of ten, rounding, word & expanded forms, decimal operations, and unit rate problems.

Math teachers are vandalizing the bowling alley by changing prices into math problems! Students help run and improve the bowling alley utilizing their decimal skills. Students will explain decimal concepts to angry customers, like the one who thinks you are charging $1,000,000 for a small drink because she doesn't understand powers of ten! They get to choose items to add to the bowling alley game room, snack bar, and shop, and plan what they want to buy for themselves and friends at a bowling celebration. This project relates math to real-life in a fun way.

The project has 17 student PDF pages (19 student digital slides made in Google Slides™) and is included in color and black and white.

You can find more information about the specific standards included for each page on the Project Preview.

Teachers Like You Said...

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Walrusy said, "Thank you so much for this resource. I used it at the end of our "All Things Decimals" unit and loved that it incorporated not only straight mathematics problems, but also questions that asked students to explain why."

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Pamela F. said, "My gifted 5th graders enjoyed this engaging unit so much. They worked in teams which they love to do. It is also fine for independent or self-paced learning! Would work well virtually!"

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Rebecca H. said, "This project is perfect for place value! It is such a difficult unit to give projects in since there isn't much computation. I love the creative way you integrate all of the place value tasks into one project (rounding, powers of ten, comparing decimals). I will be using this for years to come!"

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Meredith L. said, "I used this as a review activity. Great resource and very organized! Hit pretty much all of the skills from my math curriculum and then some. I chose to do a "glow bowling" room transformation to go along with this and make it a little more engaging - it was a hit!"
