Description
Auditory discrimination plays a critical role in a child's language development. When one sound in a word is changed, it can change the entire meaning of the word. Auditory training is important for children to work on, especially children with a hearing loss to work on listening skills.
Auditory memory is another important skill to work on for word retention and retrieval.
Use these informal assessments to evaluate your students' abilities to discriminate between similar sounds when presented verbally in the initial and final positions of words. You can also use these assessments to informally assess memory. These assessments will allow you to gather specific information on a student's specific hearing loss which will help during IEP meetings and other meetings with the child's parents/guardians and other teachers/staff members. These assessments can also help you determine if your student's hearing equipment is working properly and/or if their hearing loss has changed.
