Dead Poets Society Resources

Use this for senior English students studying the poems from the film Dead Poets Society, particularly the Romantic and Victorian periods.

The resources contains the following:

• 1 x 15 slide powerpoint introducing Dead Poet's film using an analysis of Coleridge's Rime of Ancient Mariner as a lead in (see preview video for more on the powerpoint).
• 1 x PDF of the full Rime of Ancient Mariner divided into sections
• 1 x PDF with all poems in full referenced in the film
• 1 x Deconstruct handout of how to analyse a poem in 4 steps which is also available free on my store.
• 1 x PDF of tone and mood words divided into groups of positive, neutral and negative to help students use appropriate vocabulary when analysing poetry.

Teaching Suggestions:

• pair the study of the poems with the film viewing to engage students
• use the analytical checklist for students poetry presentations to prepare.
