The video is appropriate for both U.S. History and U.S. Government classes as it weaves together many strands from both those disciplines.

Where to Find the Video

Arlington: Field of Honor can sometimes be found online on streaming services. At times, it has been available to watch for free on the National Geographic Society’s YouTube channel, for example. The best way to find out where it may currently be streaming is to run a simple Google search of the title.

The video also sometimes plays on the National Geographic channel and can be purchased as physical media from a variety of online outlets. For your convenience, here is a link to its purchase page on Amazon:

Lesson Plan Ideas

The video lasts 55 minutes, which means that these questions can turn it into a 2 period unit at the high school level.

  • The first day you could introduce the video and show most of it.
  • On the following day when the students return you could show the remainder, discuss it with the students, and work with the question set in a variety of ways to review the video and expand/deepen their understanding of the historic and cultural landmark of Arlington.
  • The PDF file of the questions can also be used as a worksheet that students fill out as they watch the video over the course of one or two days.

Both PDF and Examview formats Included for All Questions, as well as Easel Activities!

The question set includes both Examview and PDF formats so you can use the worksheet as a paper/pencil activity, or use the questions with an online or local learning management system that lets you load Examview questions! These questions can easily be loaded into a system such as Schoology or PowerLearning -- or any system that takes Examview files for upload!
