Description

Students submerge themselves into both Ancient Greek culture and history with the D’Aulaires’ Book of Greek Myths guided reading, and they love it! For my unit on Ancient Greece, I married both sixth grade ELA and Social Studies together to create this packet.

Every day started off with reading a passage from the book, and while listening students were expected to answer questions that focused on ELA skills, and social studies connections. Each reading and discussion on average lasted only 10 minutes, however there are a couple stories that will take 20. Some stories I even paraphrased to make shorter if I needed more time that day. For each story I had the pictures from the book projected on the board.

Included stories are Greeces founding myth, the birth and clash of the Titians for the establishment of Mt. Olympus, and individual stories of each Olympian, excluding Dionysus. As a final project students made posters about one demigod, and had to write about how the story connected to the Olympians. On test day, students were read a final passage about Hades, and that has also been included!

Uploaded are both PDF and Word versions of this packet if you would like to make any changes to it!
