Description

With an increasing immigrant population in the United States, educators must understand the children of immigrants, the various cultures that they bring to the classroom, differences in language, and what foods are essential to them.

Education professionals must be open-minded and willing to treat each student as an individual, regardless of origin, custom, gender, religion, or race. It is also essential for nutrition and healthcare providers to understand the different cultures and their diets so as to provide the most effective treatments.

What you’ll learn:

  • Explain the changing demographics in America
  • Compare the difference between race, ethnicity, and culture
  • Relate the role of religion in food choices
  • Summarize acculturation and how it impacts our clients
  • Interpret the role of culture in health disparities
