Description
Very few things get students as excited and engaged as a crime scene! In this investigation, students analyze 10 pieces of evidence to determine how King Tut died. Injury? Accident? or Murder?
Students walk into the room with music from the television series CSI playing. They are immediately given their assignment, detectives! There is a short video for them to watch that talks about the unique aspects of King Tut's tomb. Then, they investigate 10 short pieces of evidence to determine their own conclusions about how he died.
After students have shared their findings, they will have a discussion about how people who study history are like detectives. The teacher will go over the main theories about how he died, and students will find all of the corroborating evidence to support each theory.
This activity works well in any Ancient Egypt unit. However, I actually use it on my first day of school. It is such an engaging way to start the school year, and I love how I can connect it to studying history like detectives. I always have the crime scene even set up for Back to School Night, which parents love!
