What educators are saying

My 12th-grade students loved this lesson. I used this as a starter for an essay that way the students would know the difference in the sources. I also love how customizable the document is. You will love this.
The activity was an absolute blast and my 10th graders got really into it. A fun way to practice the differences between primary and secondary sources.

Description

“The Case of the Student Teacher Gone Missing” is an activity that asks students to solve a crime based on their analysis of evidence. First students must classify the twelve pieces of evidence as primary or secondary source evidence. Then students must decide which type of evidence they will use: primary or secondary, and explain why. Finally, students will analyze each piece of relevant evidence to draw conclusion about who the guilty teacher might be.

You can use the case as is or personalize it to match your school and staff to up the engagement factor. It's a great activity for getting students to work cooperatively and practice speaking and listening skills.

This crime scene activity can be printed, used digitally, or a combination of the two. The resource includes a print ready PDF as well as editable Google Drive versions (Docs, Slides, Forms, etc.) of all of the materials.
